Inspired by an heirloom crazy quilt, hand-stitched with scraps of fabric and interfaced with bits and pieces of old letters,Story Quilt I: Texture, Text and Time narrates the story of a family history.  By interweaving pattern, texture, text, and imagery, the bits and pieces convey a patchwork of interconnected relationships and shared experience.

I work in gouache, oil paint, pencil and wax on a thick surface of gesso made from a traditional recipe of glue and calcium carbonate powder.  This malleable ground allows me to build up and inscribe into the surface, creating the impression of time worn fabric, crumbling letters, and half-forgotten stories.
