What is a life well-lived? What do we leave behind? What do we pass on to successive generations? The discovery of a written memorial to a long ago ancestor led me to explore how family traits and characteristics can cross several generations.
I am currently working on a family grouping of four mixed media paintings. Each painting represents an individual, a portrait of a life. Together the four paintings will trace family traits from Great-grandfather to Great-granddaughter. A sense of duty, a love of learning, a curiosity about the world; these are things that live on in our descendants even when we are long gone.
